In the Future
In continuing the dialogue of monuments and memorials, including public art, we acknowledge that many creative makers, artists, and activists have already begun imagining, designing, speaking, exhibiting, and prototyping what the future of monuments may look like in shared spaces.
These are people who have been in conversations with their cities, communities, and within themselves to redefine monuments. Therefore, the following art initiative centers on others who have developed ideas, practices, and images for the future of monuments.
This summer, we will launch a new art initiative: a digital zine called In The Future. This zine will host conversations and an open call responding to a question. We will aim to do an open-call twice a year.
The first In The Future question is: How do we reclaim the collective sensory experiences that will tell the story of your community?
What are we doing? What are we asking for?
The New Monument Task Force is doing an open call for In The Future; a digital zine that gathers individuals’, groups’, and collectives’ finished work to be encapsulated into one digital platform. The submission will respond to the question, How do we reclaim the collective sensory experiences that will tell the story of your community?
Finished works can be visual, writings, poetry, audio, recordings that respond to our question. Submissions that are accepted into the digital zine will offer ideas, solutions, different perspectives, and sensory experiences from all walks of life.
Before the mid-summer debut of the digital zine “In The Future: How do we reclaim the collective sensory experiences that will tell the story of your community?” We will be hosting speaker events to lead up to the release and share space with everyone wanting to attend.
In The Future, the digital zine will be an ongoing publication with a new question to respond to. If you would like to submit to the open call, please submit to the form:
